The Word Doula means roughly someone that can be of service for you during pregnancy. This used to be in a time where people needed extra care during giving birth, before and after. Nowadays that care is still needed, but people usually get it through their family or friends. Within Vancouver there are many people that live individualistic by chance, single mothers or immigrants from a second generation that don't have much family around. For these people but also for anyone who might need an extra pair of hands to help around during, before and after pregnancy, it is useful to connect to a Doula.

There are 3 different types of Doula's at the moment, and they are all equally valuable and have different tasks. They are however not medical professions but fall more in the sector of care taking.

Prenatal Doula: Helps ease the pains and comforts before pregnancy and you can ask questions about pregnancy at forehand. Sometimes they might also know about fertility and off course healthy habits and food during pregnancy. They can assist you physically by massage, and introducing a belly wrap techniques to learn how to carry your baby if you would want to (it gives the baby more physical contact with you during your walking and doing other things).

Birth Doula: Helps ease during the pregnancy and the moment of birth itself. In some countries there exists birth houses, which are in between your own house (home birth) and a hospital (which might feel clinical). The Birth Doula can assist during a normal pregnancy, but a Midwife usually delivers the baby. The Doula assists with rituals and takes care of friends and family if needed. They might also choose to babysit on other small children around, if this is not your first child. Some Birth Doula's use hypnobirthing as a way to calm and ease labor pain. Birth Doula's are recommended by some Health Organizations as extra support during labor. Some doula's view a birth as holistic and would like you to use less medication and less chance of caesarean if not needed.

Postnatal Doula: Helps around the house, can give postnatal massage in some cases or help you with other tasks. Some Doula's are also working to talk about your other concerns, postnatal depression, post traumatic stress disorder or anything that bothered you during your pregnancy and labor. Some Doula's also can help you with belly binding, how to get your belly again back into shape.

* Prices are lower budget, compared to other agencies or firms. This is because I understand that when in need of a Doula the budget can also be tight sometimes. I do want to be able to offer the nicest services that you can do something about. I, as an experienced astrologer, feel that a baby horoscope can add to the connection with your baby to understand their needs better, but this is also the case when they're gonne grow up. So it can also be done at a later age.

* Hypnotic Birthing is done for women that want to reduce the pain perception during labor. This works by form of meditative hypnotherapy.
